More theft charges for Wisconsin woman

In difficult economic times when unemployment rates are high, people may be tempted to find alternative ways to obtain money, including theft. However, allegations of this nature are not taken lightly by Wisconsin courts. One woman from Mequon, Wisconsin, is experiencing this firsthand after being charged with theft in two counties.

The 49-year-old woman was arrested recently after her friend suspected that she had stolen more than $90,000 worth of jewelry and silverware from her home. The friend called police in May after she discovered the items were missing. Wisconsin police began to investigate, and discovered that a number of the missing items were listed on a local pawn shop registry.

The woman was convicted and held in jail after being charged for theft. While in jail, she admitted that she had been involved in another incident of theft. She called another friend from prison and admitted that she had stolen valuables from her as well to finance her gambling.

The woman has already been charged with theft and receiving stolen property. However, because the city she stole property in straddles the border of two Wisconsin counties, she is facing charges from both. She could face 10 years in prison if she is convicted in Milwaukee County and up to 20 more years if found guilty in Ozaukee County.

Allegations of theft are taken very seriously by Wisconsin police and the courts. Whether an individual is guilty or not, facing criminal charges can be very overwhelming. In situations like this, seeking professional legal advice may be helpful in understanding your rights and the legal process.
