Over the last few months this blog has emphasized the seriousness with which the state of Wisconsin treats sex offenses, and in particular the sexual assault of minors.
The stigma of the criminal charge itself, whether or not it is true, is life changing. Prison, fines and mandatory sexual offender registration are all possibilities. For repeat sexual assault offenders there is the very real prospect of life in prison.
Individuals falsely charged may not be able to recover from the accusations. The shadow of doubt had been permanently placed over them and the quality of life they once knew destroyed.
On July 15, at about 12:30 p.m., Green Bay police were called to be on the lookout for a heavy set white male in his mid 30’s and approximately 6 feet tall. The man was reported to have sexually assaulted a teenage boy. The assault allegedly took place on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus.
According to the boy’s description, the man was wearing a red t-shirt and black pants.
The teenager stated he was riding his bicycle when the suspect told him to get into his early 2000 model tan minivan. It was parked on Leon Bond Drive, a street located close to the entrance to the University campus.
The incident was reported to the police around six hours later, after the victim told a friend what had happened. Though traumatized, the boy declined medical treatment. Police said they will follow up to make sure the boy is offered all available services. It appears he was not otherwise injured.
