Wisconsin law enforcement agencies have lately been cracking down on alleged drug crimes. And while there are many types of drug charges, possession with intent to sell can be one of the more serious. Indeed, a conviction of this type of drug charge can lead to substantial jail time.
On Dec. 15, police executed a “no-knock” search warrant in Wisconsin. Two men were subsequently arrested as a result of the search. According to police, the men were ages 21 and 25 and were arrested at an apartment about 3:30 in the afternoon. Police claim that they detected the odor of burnt marijuana, and a search of the residence allegedly produced about one quarter of a pound of marijuana, along with cash and various types of drug paraphernalia. Police also claim the alleged marijuana was in baggies commonly used in drug distribution.
One of the men was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession of drug paraphernalia. The other man was charged with possession of marijuana. It is not known if other drug trafficking charges will be added to either man’s charge-list.
When Wisconsin residents are facing drug possession charges of any type, a good criminal defense attorney may be helpful in getting the charges reduced or even dropped. The legal premise that persons are innocent until proven guilty applies to everyone. In cases of so-called no-knock warrants, accused individuals would do well to become fully aware of their rights under Wisconsin and federal law.
