A criminal conviction can change a person’s life forever. If convicted of serious criminal charges, an individual can face serious penalties, including prison time. In addition, having a felony conviction on one’s record can make employment and housing difficult to obtain. Two Wisconsin day care workers are now facing the possibility of these consequences after being charged with child abuse.
According to police, the two day care providers from Racine videotaped three-year old children beating a two-year old child. Police claim that rather than stopping the beating, the two individuals watched and continued to film it. According to reports, the video of the beating was put on social media. The two individuals face child abuse and child neglect charges along with other criminal charges related to the circumstances.
One of the charges the two individuals face is contributing to the delinquency of a minor. This criminal charge refers to adults who assist minors in committing criminal acts. One common example of an adult may be charged with is providing a minor with alcohol because a juvenile delinquency act is possessing and consuming alcohol before the age of 21. To prove this criminal charge, it must be shown that an adult (over the age of 18) breached a duty or committed an act, which caused a minor to perform a delinquent act.
These two Wisconsin day care providers face serious criminal charges, which carry stiff penalties that may make it difficult to find future employment and obtain housing. It is important to remember that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty, and all defendants deserve a fair trial.
