Milwaukee woman faces drug charges after traffic stop

Wisconsin, just like all other states, has laws regarding the use and possession of controlled substances. These laws enforce strict rules and harsh penalties for drug offenses. With the goal of decreasing state drug crimes, authorities often conduct measures to catch suspected drug criminals, including drug bust stings, checkpoints and searches.

In Racine County, a woman from Milwaukee is facing felony drug charges after the vehicle in which she was riding was stopped for a traffic violation. Police allegedly found pills, marijuana and approximately $4,500 worth of heroin inside the vehicle. Officers say that the 27-year-old woman was a passenger in the car.

The woman was being held in the Racine County jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of heroin with intent to deliver. According to authorities, a policeman stated that he smelled burned marijuana during the traffic stop. He then searched the vehicle and allegedly found the drugs. The driver was released without any charges.

Criminal charges that involve drugs normally result in severe consequences. A conviction on drug charges often carries a harsh sentence, including large fines and jail time. A drug sentence can potentially be longer than that of a violent crime. As the accused person waits for the court’s decisions, the accused drug felon often goes through difficult times in the community as the charges have tarnished the person’s reputation. Some people are abandoned by family and friends. Others face difficulty in returning to their chosen profession.
