Some drug cases involve a plethora of charges

One of the things that can make drug crime cases particularly complicated is their potential to involve a great number of charges.

An example of how charge-heavy such cases can get can be seen in some recent news that has come up here in Wisconsin. It has been reported that nearly two dozen drug charges have been leveled against a woman from Sturgeon Bay.

The woman was one of over thirty people who were arrested as a result of an eight-month police investigation into alleged drug activity.

The charges the woman is facing come out to 22 in total. The charges regard a range of different drugs, including cocaine, LSD, amphetamine and THC. They also cover a range of different drug crimes, including possession, delivery/manufacturing, drug paraphernalia possession and maintaining a drug trafficking place. Nineteen of the charges fall in the felony level, while the remaining three are misdemeanor charges.

There are many reasons why facing a large number of drug crime charges can create a particularly complex legal situation for a person, including that:

  • Each charge brings its own set of elements and issues with it.
  • The range of potential penalties and consequences that could come out of the case could be incredibly wide.
  • The amount of evidence the case involves can be very high, so there can be a vast number of evidence issues to address.
  • It can create a rather complicated environment for things such as negotiations with prosecutors over potential plea deals.

Experienced defense attorneys can assist individuals charged with a high number of drug crimes with addressing the special complexities their case raises.
